Many tourists visit Bangkok, Thailand for various reasons. And I'm sure one of those must be experiencing "Muay Thai" Boxing show. I'm Thai fashion and travel blogger, born & raised in Bangkok, this was my first time to see live boxing in the front row. I had only watched on television, but this was the time when I saw people fighting in front of my eyes. Did I enjoy? Yes, I was! However, I also felt that something is misunderstood about the culture. Maybe I am wrong, I don't know, but this is just my opinion. Some tourists go to the boxing ring just to see the 'show' but it's not a show, it's 'life'
These people fighting for their lives. To make some money, and to earn a living, so it's not an act. From a young kid like 11 years old to the adult match, everyone fights for their lives and for the ranking to be the top of the game. I don't know, but when I watched it, it was somehow reflecting how hard it was to make a living this way. I mean, to get hurt just to make money not for themselves, but for the sake of the family too.
These people have been trained to be a boxer since they were young. That's how it is, the culture which has been here for decades. I'm sure some were happy to fight, but some looked like they were forced to do. Don't judge me. Like I mentioned that Muay Thai's not just an act like wrestling, but it's an 'ART' The martial art, which we Thai people are familiar with. Before the match started, the fighter must perform a ritual dance in order to show the respect to their sacred trainer. To lift the spirit up and to win the match. It's not a random performance, but for every Thai boxer, it has a deep meaning and very important to do.
